  1. On Cui Jian

In Korea, Cui Jian used to be known as a descendent of Korean immigrants in China, but mostly known as a godfather figure of Chinese Rock & Roll.
Throughtout the human history, there has always been an artist who takes the lead in a chaotic period and Cui Jian is one of them. He became famous during Tiananman Incident since his song of 一無所有 became sort of a logo song of young generation at that time, and it was banned for a while.
The lyrics of 一無所有 doesn't describe any seriousness or wrongfulness of Tiananmen Incident. It's not fancy, dreamy nor violent. The lyrics contains universal human emotions in colloquial form of speech, as in casual language that people speak to each other. Another song of his, The Red Clothing (一塊紅布) also represents the actual event of Cultural Revolution. These traits made his songs old-time masterpieces as a mirror to show the poor reality, a pen to criticize the wrongfulness of reality. It has melted into the lyrics and touched the PEOPLE's heart. He's not only just a pioneer of Chinese Rock & Roll, but also a leader of Chinese pop culture.
